Aurizon downside risk yet to play out

Concerns over the viability of Gindalbie Metals' Karara Mining iron ore venture in Western Australia has raised an additional question mark over the near-term earnings prospects for Aurizon, notwithstanding its asset write-downs flagged just before Christmas.
Karara has capacity to produce 8 million tonnes annually and for Aurizon, its contract with the company is one of its largest exposures to the iron ore sector.
