ASX closes at record high
The Australian sharemarket finished Friday’s session at a fresh high on the back of a solid day by gold miners and technology stocks.
The S&P/ASX 200 closed up 0.1 per cent, or 9.8 points, at 7312.3 meaning the benchmark index lifted 17 points, or 0.2 per cent this week. That markes four straight weeks of gains.
Gold miners posted the biggest gains on Friday; Resolute Mining climbed 7.7 per cent to 56¢, Gold Road Resources advanced 5.5 per cent to $1.52, Perseus Mining jumped 5.4 per cent to $1.46 and Northern Star Resources rose 4.4 per cent to $11.50.
The major buy now pay later stocks also performed strongly as Afterpay added 3.7 per cent to $103.52 and Zip Co climbed 4.1 per cent to $7.15.
Mesoblast added 5.9 per cent to $2.15 and Appen rose 5.6 per cent to $13.85.
EML Payments closed 3.8 per cent lower at $3.77 while all four major banks posted losses.
