ASX hits record; RBA’s Lowe to give taper talk
RBA’s Lowe to give taper talk
The Reserve Bank of Australia has announced that governor Philip Lowe will give a speech on July 6, 90 minutes after the bank’s monthly board meeting announcement is made.
The RBA’s July meeting will be crucial because the bank will announce whether it will extend or taper two key stimulus measures.
The bank will announce if it will extend the three-year yield curve target of 0.1 per cent from April 2024 to November 2024. Some interest rate traders and economists believe it won’t be extended.
The RBA will also announce the future of its $200 billion bond buying program beyond September. The RBA is expected to announce a third tranche of so-called quantitative easing, but the exact size and duration of the program is uncertain.
Dr Lowe’s commitment to give a speech after the decision underlines the importance of next month’s meeting.
