ASX extends rebound ahead of Christmas

The Australian sharemarket extended its rebound this week after a strong lead from Wall Street where the world’s largest technology companies powered all three major benchmarks higher.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index added 19.3 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 8220.9 in the shortened Christmas Eve session, holding on to Monday’s rally when the benchmark surged 1.7 per cent for its best day in six months after a bout of heavy selling the previous week.
