AGL Energy has lost the head of its key growth business housing battery storage and smart meters as Marc England has been appointed to head New Zealand's largest electricity and gas retailer, Genesis Energy.

Mr England, who will take up the role in May next year, has been "the key driver behind the new strategic agenda at AGL and the development of its New Energy businesses", Genesis chair Jenny Shipley said.
