Industry minister Ian Macfarlane says there is still huge potential for unconventional onshore gas to be developed in Australia, despite some prominent failures in recent weeks.

Hopes of establishing a strong local unconventional sector have taken a reality check after US energy giant ConocoPhillips withdrew from its joint venture with New Standard Energy on the back of some disappointing results in WA’s Canning Basin.
