Feed-in tariff backed
A Senate committee has urged the federal government to implement a "national framework" for a feed-in tariff for solar power, through which households with photovoltaic panels would be paid for the electricity they produce, or at least the electricity they feed to the grid. The committee said such tariffs "can be an effective means of driving industry cost reduction" and dismissed claims they would unduly raise electricity prices. John Breusch
