Germany faces jobs crisis ‘of a thousand cuts’
Highly paid manufacturing work is no longer so easy to come by in Eurozone’s largest economy. And some believe companies are holding on to more workers than they need.
Post-pandemic labour hoarding and strong employee-protection rules are masking worrying changes in Germany’s market for high-paying manufacturing jobs.
After hitting a record low of 4.9 per cent in the spring of 2019, the jobless rate in the eurozone’s largest economy has risen to 6 per cent, according to figures from the Federal Labour Office.
