Industry super, championed by Paul Keating and Bill Kelty in the mid-1980s, makes up 38 per cent of total super savings and dominates its retail rivals. When the Hawke government called for wage restraint now in exchange for retirement savings later, it kicked off a $3.5 trillion savings pile that others can only envy.
