Investors should be wary of the sharp reversal in interest rate expectations on money markets in response to Wednesday’s in-line inflation numbers.

Although the potential for a rate increase at next Tuesday’s RBA board meeting looks small, the inflation story for the ASX is largely unchanged: price pressures remain uncomfortably high, which gives the Reserve Bank little scope to support a weakening economy.
