‘Pretty brutal’: Australia’s first medal bid ends in heartbreak

Paris | Australia’s first potential medal of the 2024 Olympics has ended in heartbreak for 3m synchronised diving duo Anabelle Smith and Maddison Keeney, who had looked on course for at least bronze going into their fifth and final dive late on Saturday (AEST).

The Chinese and US pairs seemed to have a pretty tight lock on gold and silver, but the Aussies were battling it out for bronze with Great Britain, who had already dived. All that Smith and Keeney had to do was hold to the standard of their previous two dives, which had got them into contention.
