Emergency services rescued up to 200 people from floodwaters centred on the Hawkesbury River, north-west of Sydney, over the weekend as south-east Queensland escaped forecast heavy storms.
NSW state authorities said floodwaters from 200mm of rain were beginning to recede on Sunday afternoon, prompting Emergency Services Minister Jihad Dib to declare the government was moving into a “recovery phase”.
