The year 2024 is set to be the biggest ever for democracy around the world, with more than 1.5 billion people expected to head to the polls to vote in national elections.
Presidential or parliamentary elections will take place this year in the United States, Russia, India, Ukraine, Pakistan, Indonesia, Mexico and Taiwan, plus a smattering of smaller states.
