Wrangling over the US speakership is hampering Anthony Albanese from locking in meetings with key congressional leaders in Washington next week, to lobby them over AUKUS-related legislation as well as deliver a potential joint address to Congress.

Mr Albanese heads to Washington DC on Sunday for an official visit that will heavily emphasise the security alliance, co-operation on the clean energy transition and critical minerals, and partnering with the US on innovation.
