‘The work starts now’: Voice advocates demand action

Voice to parliament advocates have demanded politicians urgently begin new efforts to close the disadvantage gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, insisting repercussions are needed for false claims by the No campaign and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.

As recriminations from Saturday’s thumping referendum defeat began in the Yes camp, spokesman Thomas Mayo said he did not blame voters for the result, but hit out at false claims about what constitutional recognition would have meant. Most Yes leaders went to ground on Sunday, saying a week of silence and reflection was needed following rejection of the Voice.
