Only four of Australia’s 19 Closing the Gap targets on Indigenous disadvantage are on track, with new data showing intentional self-harm is the leading cause of death for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults under 40.

New Productivity Commission data released on Thursday reveals targets to reduce the rate of incarceration for Indigenous adults and the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care are not on track. Both metrics are worsening.
