More Australians than ever before are being targeted by foreign espionage agencies, security chief Mike Burgess says, revealing ASIO has foiled multiple plots, including breaking up a “hive of spies” and attempts to cultivate journalists and judicial figures.
Delivering his annual threat assessment on Tuesday night, Mr Burgess also warned the AUKUS deal to acquire nuclear-powered submarines had seen a “distinct uptick” in the defence contractors being targeted online.
