‘Just so silly’: Pearson says proposed rival Voice vote is diversion

Indigenous leader Noel Pearson has dismissed plans by opponents of the Voice to parliament for a rival referendum to acknowledge migrants in the Constitution, describing the push as a diversion tactic.

A committee leading the No case against Indigenous recognition on Monday proposed an alternative symbolic model, which would acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as well as Australia’s multicultural community, under the banner of “Recognise a Better Way”.
