Picking a replacement for Liberal senator Jim Molan could be delayed until after the March NSW state poll to avoid a damaging distraction for Premier Dominic Perrottet’s re-election campaign.
The death of Senator Molan, who died on Monday aged 72, triggers a casual vacancy to fill the remaining 5½ years of his term by the factionally fractious NSW branch.
