Wine, lobster and barley producers say sentiment is shifting and Chinese traders are staying in touch amid warming diplomatic relations and expectations Beijing will lift an import ban on Australian coal.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers struck an optimistic note on Friday, telling reporters the resumption of coal exports to Australia’s largest trading partner would be an “an incredibly welcome development”.
