King readies gas trigger, as exporters lose ‘social licence’

The Albanese government has put gas producers on notice that export controls will be in place by the start of 2023 unless the industry can guarantee enough gas will be diverted to avoid a domestic shortfall.

Warning that gas producers are suffering a decline in their “social licence”, Resources Minister Madeleine King on Monday announced the government is readying an initial step towards the first-ever use of the Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism (ADGSM).
