Paper trail shows Perrottet, Ayres, Barilaro briefed on US trade post
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet, Trade Minister Stuart Ayres and then-deputy premier John Barilaro were briefed on the outcome of a global search to fill a senior US trade role and told a senior bureaucrat had got the job, before Mr Barilaro went on to get the role himself.
Mr Ayres also signed off on Jenny West’s appointment to the trade role last year, according to a new trove of papers on the US post released by NSW Treasury overnight, raising questions about if he misled parliament when he said the process did not find a suitable candidate.
