- Australian farmers are “holding their breath” that the federal government has the right measures in place to stop foot and mouth disease entering the country, National Farmers Federation chief executive Tony Mahar says.

- Former federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg has joined Goldman Sachs. The ousted MP has been taken in as a senior regional advisor for the Asia-Pacific. Frydenberg said in a statement he was pleased to join “the pre-eminent mergers and acquisitions and capital markets adviser to clients globally”.

- Anthony Albanese insists Labor won’t budge on its target to cut emissions 43 per cent by 2030, while reiterating the government is happy to look at “sensible” amendments to its climate legislation.

- Anthony Albanese has said there is no indication from premiers and chief ministers Australia would return to broad COVID-19 mandates during the winter omicron wave.
