Manila | Ferdinand Marcos jnr’s stunning election victory triggered protests and a massive police response in Manila on Tuesday, but the scale of the win suggests nothing can derail his inauguration as Philippines president on June 30 – 36 years after his dictator father fled the country.

A campaign focused squarely on bread-and-butter issues amid a remarkable restoration of the Marcos family has left the rest of the world with little insight into how the new president will proceed.
