VCs about to learn a hard investment lesson

Senior sources in the Australian VC community say they have begun telling start-ups to prepare for a very different environment, where things they have become accustomed to won’t be indulged.

The warning signs started flashing across the global private equity sector about a week ago.

First came veteran VC investor Bill Gurley of Benchmark Capital, who told his 543,000 Twitter followers “an entire generation of entrepreneurs and tech investors [who] built their entire perspectives on valuation during the second half of a 13-year amazing bull market run” were about to face an “unlearning process that could be painful, surprising and unsettling to many”.
