Putin steps up attempts to sow disunity, uncertainty in Europe

London | Russia has dangled the prospect of cutting gas supplies to major European economies such as Germany and Italy, as President Vladimir Putin looks to sap the Continent’s resolve and unity.
After Russia shut off gas to Poland and Bulgaria late on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST), Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that other countries would suffer the same fate if they did not use a new payment system designed to support the rouble.
