The super changes you missed out on
Changes to legacy pensions and rules for SMSF members going overseas from last year’s budget didn’t get legislated – and may never be, depending on the election’s results.
Colin LewisContributorThis year’s federal budget was silent on superannuation except for the government announcing – days earlier – that it was extending the 50 per cent “temporary” reduction in minimum pension drawdown rates for another year – good news for retirees not needing income to live off from their account-based pensions and similar income streams, as it means they can retain more in super’s tax-exempt environment for longer.
But last year’s budget was different – it contained many important changes to super and all but two of those proposals have been legislated.
