Crossbench push looms on fuel standards

Whoever wins the May election will encounter a crossbench push for improved vehicle efficiency and emission standards for Australian cars, with independent candidate for North Sydney, Kylea Tink, promising to put forward new laws designed to cut pollution.

Angry at Australia’s recalcitrance on reducing emissions from transport, Ms Tink said new standards could curb the country’s third-largest source of carbon and improve the environmental credentials of cars being imported by manufacturers.
