Russia, Ukraine to hold talks but Kremlin ups stakes to nuclear

London | Russia and Ukraine are to hold talks “without preconditions”, but the Kremlin has also put its nuclear deterrence forces on high alert in response to the West’s powerful sanctions and increased military aid.

The Belarus-brokered talks, which Ukraine welcomed as “already a victory”, will take place between Ukrainian and Russian envoys in the Belarusian city of Gomel, about 280 kilometres north of Kyiv.
