Federal Labor is expected to aim for an emissions reduction target of just over 40 per cent by 2030 over 2005 levels when it releases its long-awaited climate policy on Friday.

The party will not devise new policies to achieve the target, but will promise to get there on a business-as-usual basis by having modelled the impact the policies it has so far decided upon, and add that impact to the nation’s current trajectory.
