PM hails new subs deal as ‘forever partnership’

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australia’s new deal with the United States and United Kingdom to acquire nuclear-powered submarines is the start of a “forever partnership”, as he warns defence spending would need to accelerate in light of the strategic threat posed by China.

Mr Morrison rejected the notion that the submarine announcement was provocative and downplayed the prospect of further trade retaliation by China in response.
