Can the economy rebound from delta lockdowns?

Australia was in good shape in the second quarter, but the pace of the economic recovery is the subject of growing debate and may well hinge on how consumers react to living with thousands of daily delta cases.

For western Sydney service station operator Eddy Nader, the end of lockdowns, curfews and interstate border closures can’t happen quickly enough.

Fuel revenue at his five service centres has plunged between 25 per cent and 50 per cent. Restrictions on construction have stopped tradies showing up to buy coffees, pies and energy drinks. Interstate truckies filling up with diesel, who usually travel to Queensland and Victoria, have slowed to a trickle.
