Victoria abandons COVID zero but national plan in doubt

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has abandoned the state’s COVID-zero strategy, as he embraces a soft lockdown plan to “modestly” and “cautiously” ease restrictions provided COVID-19 infections can be kept below a low case threshold.

Mr Andrews’ admission that Victorians could not continue lockdown “endlessly” came as Prime Minister Scott Morrison sought to keep the COVID-free states on board with the nationally agreed plan by urging that it would bring us all together and connect Australia to the world.
