Rugby Australia chairman Hamish McLennan believes hosting the 2027 Rugby World Cup will create a surge of interest in the game, from grassroots through to the Wallabies and Wallaroos, creating the next generation of fans.

Mr McLennan was part of a group including Wallabies captain Michael Hooper and World Cup-winning hooker Phil Kearns that on Thursday launched the bid to host the Cup, making Australia the first country to formally express interest.
