Singapore/Jakarta | South-east Asian leaders are set for a week of furious diplomacy, with any meaningful response to the deadly political and civic crisis in Myanmar likely to be decided in the days before an emergency regional meeting.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting on Myanmar that has been in the works for weeks is expected to take place in Jakarta on Saturday. ASEAN is still to formally acknowledge that the event could be the first time the Myanmar military’s ruling role is acknowledged at an international forum.
