Tasmanian Premier calls early poll, accused of cashing in on pandemic

Tasmanians will go to the polls on May 1, almost a year earlier than expected, after Liberal Premier Peter Gutwein called a snap election, citing the need to restore stability after being reduced to minority government this week.
But the timing was also an opportunity to cash in on the government’s popularity following its handling of the COVID-19 crisis.
