Cormann should tackle China, education, climate and big tech at OECD

By lifting the OECD’s role in these four areas, the former finance minister’s time in Paris has the potential to be transformational.

Mathias Cormann takes the reins of the OECD at a critical time. It is not business as usual.

There is the pandemic issue and whether it becomes a regular feature of our future. The Gurria era saw the financial crisis and zero interest rates emerge. The Cormann reign starts with debt at unprecedented levels caused by these low rates. Climate change events are accelerating. Income distribution is moving toward extremes not seen before.
