For HME Services, the coronavirus pandemic could not have come at a worse time. The engineering firm, which specialises in stages and theatres, was managing projects in four countries and five Australian states.

Among its projects were upgrades to the Walsh Bay arts precinct, home to the Sydney Theatre and the Bell Shakespeare companies, and the Sydney Opera House; the construction of a pavilion in Dubai for its World Expo; a convention centre in Christchurch; and multiple projects in Vietnam.
