“There is a DNA to The Crown world that took me some time to understand,” says the feted series' costume designer Amy Roberts – immediately putting paid to the notion that creating the clothing for the show would be a fairytale come true.

“I tell people this and they laugh but, to be honest, I spent the first three months of the job thinking, ‘How do I get out of this?’” she tells Life & Leisure over the phone from London.
