Europe leads record spike in global virus cases

Paris/Prague/Berlin | European countries stretching from Spain to Ukraine have posted record increases in coronavirus cases, underscoring growing alarm in the region as it struggles to control the pandemic.
The surge in infections in Europe led what the World Health Organisation said was a record one-day increase in global coronavirus cases on Thursday (Friday AEDT), with the world total rising by 338,779 in 24 hours.
