Andrews seeks compromise on emergency powers request
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is set to compromise on his request for a 12-month extension to his state of emergency powers after a dressing down from the Prime Minister, a business backlash and resistance in the state Parliament.
The compromise deal is believed to involve an extension of three to six months at the most, with a new parliamentary committee to review rolling powers every four weeks. The committee would be led by a crossbench MP and comprise a mix of Labor and Liberal MPs.
