Victorian aged care crisis worsens as 87 homes hit by virus
Victoria's aged care COVID-19 flare-up continued to spin out of control on Wednesday as 804 active cases were reported across 87 homes, prompting warnings from Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton that the outbreaks threaten the broader community.
The aged care outbreaks, which have led to over 170 elderly patients at affected nursing homes being moved to hospitals and federal intervention, are responsible for almost 1000 cases in total, with 474 residents, 419 staff and 59 close contacts contracting the virus.
