When Queensland closed its borders on March 25, nearly a quarter of Australia's land mass was suddenly out of bounds to everyone living outside that state.
Almost 2000 islands – most of them protected within the world's largest reef system, the Great Barrier Reef – and 7000 kilometres of coastline were as unreachable as any destination abroad.
