London | Italy has kept the growth in new COVID-19 cases in the single digits for a third straight day, offering a crumb of hope that its prolonged and painful lockdown may be pushing back against the pandemic's deadly tide.
The number of confirmed cases in the world's coronavirus epicentre rose 7.5 per cent to 74,386 on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT), as the country moved into its third - and tightest yet - week of economic and social lockdown.
