We knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any less breathtaking.

Qantas’ announcement that it will stand down the majority of its 30,000-strong workforce as it shuts down international flights completely, and slashes domestic capacity by 60 per cent, is an awful blow for those workers, their families, the company itself and the broader economy.
