Washington | Joe Biden is set to become the Democratic nominee for a history-making battle against Donald Trump that will be fought over personal character, fitness for office and economic management under the shadow of the coronavirus outbreak.
Taking what has become a near-unassailable lead over Senator Bernie Sanders, Mr Biden secured big victories in Mississippi, Missouri and Michigan on Wednesday (AEDT) and was neck-and-neck in Washington state.
