Frenzied stockpiling of staple items like toilet paper, pasta, rice and tinned food by shoppers is delivering a substantial pull-forward of sales at big supermarket chains Woolworths and Coles, but analysts warn it will only be a short-term jump.
Both big supermarket chains on Sunday implemented tougher new restrictions on toilet paper purchases by customers as panic buying continued, and extra deliveries to stores were selling out within an hour.
