Supermarket shelves have been stripped of hand sanitisers and some shoppers have started to stockpile dried goods as the worsening threat of the coronavirus prompts fears of quarantines and food shortages.

As an elderly Perth man became the first person in Australia to die of the coronavirus on Sunday, shoppers posted on Twitter about low stocks in dried goods and toiletries in supermarkets in Sydney's northern suburbs and western Perth.
