Seasonally adjusted retail sales trade dropped 0.5 per cent in December, worse than economists' forecast of a 0.2 per cent decline.
However retail sales for the December quarter, as measured in constant prices, came in stronger than expected, pointing to a lift in consumption's contribution to overall economic growth in the December quarter.
