Defence companies to be audited over promises of local jobs

Major defence companies will be audited over their promises to offer Australian firms work following complaints from local industry they are being shut out of lucrative taxpayer-funded military projects.

Defence Industry Minister Melissa Price has put the largely foreign-owned companies on notice that new ships, combat vehicles and other hardware being built locally need to maximise Australian involvement, appointing a former senior banker and Treasury official to hold them to account on behalf of the government.
